Amgen Tour of California 2009

by Doug Miranda on February 17, 2009

On Saturday afternoon Christine and I made it over to the capital to catch some of the last riders in the prologue race of the Amgen Tour of California. It was a gloomy day so I wanted to try some off camera lighting to get some different looking photos. Christine helped out by holding my flash that was attached to a monopod. She did a great job!!! It was a super fun time watching the top riders in the world race by you and taking photos of them at the same time.

The next day we drove to Winters to take some photos of them during the 1st stage of the race. It wasn’t as fun as the first day due to the fact that we had to stand out in the pouring rain. But it was still fun to see all the riders again and cheer them on!!!

Hello Doug,

I just wanted to say how great I think these shots are. I’ve seen a lot of photos from this race lately (being around Sacramento myself it’s hard not to) and the lighting setup you used gives yours a very unique feel. I especially like the second down from the top. By any chance do you have bigger versions of these somewhere? Some would make great desktops. :)

too fun man!! LOVE that you added in the off camera flash… I really should invest in a Q flash one of these days!
